Make it look like someone is home at all times.

Use automatic timers on lights when you are away from home. Try finding a timer that allows you to set the lights to go on and off at different times each day so anyone casing your home can't establish a pattern.

Have a neighbor pick up mail and newspapers when you are out of town. A pile of old newspapers on the porch practically screams, “I'm on vacation.”
