When the beam of light is interrupted underneath the door, then the garage door opening mechanism is blocked from closing – this keeps small children and pets from getting hit or crushed by the garage door, and can also give intruders leave to run away rather than trapping them inside your garage. Some systems even use ultrasonic waves to detect motion. The waves are transmitted through the room and bounce back as echoes to the receiver.

As mentioned before, motion detectors can be hooked to video surveillance systems. This is a good idea for several reasons. If you must have video surveillance, then you can make it less expensive by using motion detection along with it and also save storage space. When movement is picked up on by the motion detector system, it triggers the video surveillance to record – therefore you only use up recording space when there is something to record.
