Other wireless systems use ultrasonic waves to detect motion. The waves are transmitted throughout the space, and then bounce back to the receiver as echoes, allowing the system to detect motion. Wireless home security systems can also involve cameras. If you require a video surveillance system, then wireless may be the way to go. Connect your camera system to a motion detector to make it even more efficient. It will save on storage of tapes and recordings, because the motion detector will only trigger the cameras to record when movement is picked up. That way, you are not spending a lot of time and effort taping an empty screen with nothing there. You can also find wireless home security systems that turn on outdoor lights whenever movement is picked up. This will flood your yard or driveway with light if something comes within range of the sensors, which could be an intruder. Often, it will turn out that your lights got flipped on due to a small animal or someone's pet, but the peace of mind the lights afford you is worth it – if an intruder IS in the yard, then you will be able to see them clearly and prepare by arming yourself and calling the police.

Other wireless home security systems do the more traditional burglar alarm functions, but you can also get ones that are used inside the home to mimic the behavior of people. This is good for when you're away from home, because it will give the appearance of someone being inside even when there really isn't. One example is a system that causes the lights to go off and on at random. Random lights are better than those on a specific timer, because then no one watching the house can pick out a pattern and realize it's just a system.

No matter what type of wireless network security system you get, just make sure that they have enough range to cover the areas you need covered and they don't work on a frequency that interferes with any other wireless devices in the home, like Internet routers.
